Problem

  1. Designers were following subjective design paths, resulting in inconsistent product appearances.
  2. Additionally, without a defined guide, decision-making times were prolonged. The need to create each component from scratch further contributed to time-consuming processes, consuming valuable sprint time.
  3. This, in turn, led to rushed deadlines and less time available for thoughtful problem-solving and design.

Solution

  1. Invest in a design language system that establishes the fundamental rules, providing a solid foundation to unify future designs into a common language. This approach will streamline decision-making and speed up the creation of components.

How we achieved the solution

Identification

  1. We documented all the elements on our website, focusing on those commonly utilised and integral to user experiences. These elements serve as primary entry points for critical flows that significantly impact our key metrics. Some examples: Menu, coupons, text fields, pagination, cards (product cards, category cards etc), icons, testimonials, reviews, pills, buttons, nav bars, tag, tooltips, toast etc.
  2. We assigned these components among the design team, initiating research, competitive analysis, and identification of best practices to optimise and design them effectively.
