Loco has been a pioneer in the live game streaming and esports sector in India, paving the way for gaming to go from a niche hobby to a mainstream national interest. The ‘Made in India’ platform is home to India’s most popular streamers and has built highly engaged communities across various games including BGMI (BattleGrounds Mobile India).
Loco has grown rapidly over the past 24 months, with daily active viewers scaling by 8x, monthly active streamers scaling by 5x, and live watch hours scaling by 86x since January 2021. Today, highly active users spend over 1 hour daily on Loco, making it the gaming community’s platform of choice for a seamless streaming and viewing experience.
What I did
It was exciting and challenging to work on Loco. I had to understand a completely new persona of a young gamer.
I worked on several features, the most prominent of which was a slot machine for "Loco Loot Lucky Draw" and "Streamer Health".
To engage more users, we came up with an idea of Loco Loot Lucky Draw. Where users could buy tickets in exchange for gold coins and play with the slot machine—prizes included an iPhone (among other things).
Video quality was a key part of Loco's experience. Streamer Health allowed streamers to examine the quality of their broadcasts and, if needed, make adjustments. Streamer health assessed video and audio settings like bitrates (and even framerate), communicating status such as 'good', 'warning' or ‘bad’.
